Absolutely Years has been formed in late 1998 by two high school mates,
Nico and II (“the Second”). Both shared similar vision of the modern musical culture, both were fond of playing and writing music,
and both were inspired by the same goal of embodying their musical ideas in some materialised form.
As Nico recalls today, “Everything was about music. There wasn't even a sight of a thought of some "commercial success" or "world-wide acceptance"...
We just liked to drop to our old studio flat, lock all the doors and windows, and spend the whole night through creating something really stunning...
The music itself was our goal”. Those days Nico and II have been dreaming of absolutely new kind of music; a music that should have grown as a
result of interference of traditional classical music with "new wave" composing and arrangement techniques that were brought to the world
with the development of electronic and computerised music.
Partially because of the above the band didn't hurry with making their music public.
The results of overnight sessions were mainly spread amongst friends and a close circle of local fans. For the time being, the band has
written around 40 works, yet their first album has seen the public only in the middle of 2009.
The album (that received the name "Once") contained eleven early compositions, plus two tracks in the bonus status.
Two years later, a subsequent "A Man and an Orchestra" album has been released. Unlike the first album, which was actually a collection of individual compositions unrelated to each other, this one was a holistic work, with a single idea going through all the tracks comprising the album. This wasn't just another collection of tracks anymore; it was a complete musical-expressed story with its exposition, climax and denouement. “A Man and an Orchestra” depicts an evolution (or, to put the things in correct way, a devolution) of an ordinary “member of society”. Having been dreamy and open-eyed person in their childhood, the character eventually ends up as a heartless screw in a business machine; having substituted all the joys of the world with doubtful career opportunities.
Absolutely Years are now working on their third studio album. Neither the title nor even the general idea of the album are known at the moment, yet Nico affirms that the new album, just like “a Man and an Orchestra”, will have strong social orientation, and will reflect a yet another bunch of original musical ideas of the band members.
Music is one of the most wonderful activities ever invented by human being. Throughout the centuries, creation and performance of music
were perfect ways of non-physical and non-verbal exchange of energy and feelings between people. Music has a great ability of influencing
our state of mind, helping us relax or move mountains when we need to. Finally, just like ideal forms of architectural masterpieces
please one's eyes, music can make us excited simply by the perfection of harmony of different voices assembled in a tune.
The ability to compose and understand music is one of the real, true, never-dying values the mankind ever had. Sadly, for a half-dozen of
past decades certain degradation of the attitude to music can be noticed. The music is not thought of as a product of inspired mind anymore;
instead, music is treated as a commercial product designed and created for certain target audiences. Two extremely bad consequences of this
fact are an excessive simplification of the level of created compositions (to cover as large audiences as possible), and a shift of the focus
from the music itself to the accompanying marketing “wrappers” (mind-blowing album covers, provocative video clips, shocking interviews).
Such an order of things can be hardly considered normal. Yet we have no doubts that such a tendency is not once and for all. Just like in
every other area where aggressive marketing operates, the result will be perfectly the same: the overflow. One day the amount of marketing
shit poured down on the heads will exceed the maximum allowed value — and people will have nothing to do but to look closely at the content.
This day will be the day of the renaissance of the true music.
To bring our small drop of water to the ocean of world music heritage.
To attract attention to the distortions and disbalances in cultural and moral aspects of our life with the help of the music we compose.
To do our best to improve the well-being of people living in the world.
To realize that our efforts have made 1000 (one thousand) minds happier.
