13 SEPTEMBER 2011
Leeds, UK — 13 September 2011 — Absolutely Years, an alternative electronic band from Leeds, West Yorkshire,
is releasing their second studio work. «A Man and an Orchestra», a long-expected concept album which the band members have
been working on for the last two years, finally becomes available to the public. The band is proud of the release and is hoping that the
record will «bring a little piece of happiness to the world».
The band has obviously chosen to dive deeper into their unusual, somewhat eclectic instrumental style which had been
presented to the world with their debut album «Once» two years ago. Yet, «A Man and an Orchestra»
makes it clear that the musicians have significantly evolved for the past two years, both in professional and intellectual sense.
The band's second album is a holistic musical work dedicated to the important social problem of dehumanization of the society.
Although it is difficult to attribute the album to some particular musical style, elements of noise and ambient music,
as well as those of industrial and art rock styles can be easily noticed.
Twelve tracks comprising the album share a common idea, and depict a life story of a «man of the crowd» living
in the developed part of the world. Brought up with pragmatism in mind, having been taught that the life is a fight where he
must be a winner, young protagonist easily breaks with his parents' home to move to the city, attracted by exciting career
aspirations. Day after day, year after year he works hard aiming to reach the highest social peaks. Though he succeeds in his
career, such a life style results in him losing his friends one after another. Eventually, his wife, being unable to share
her life with a machine, also breaks down with him. Having found himself alone with his solitude, the man understands the
insanity of the position he's ended up with, and tries to escape from the cage he'd locked himself in.
«The idea of the album has been born from the clear understanding of falsity of ideals prevailing in modern society,»
says Nico Years, the leader and the art director of the band, «everyone is proud of living in a free country, but what
kind of freedom do they possess? Virtually everyone is actually a slave — a slave of money, a slave of crazy standards
set out by our society for its members, the standards forcing them to exchange their lives with a run for some artificial goals.
The man has forgotten that he is endowed with unique qualities — to feel and love, to cognize and create — that's
where the real freedom is.»
The record benefits from heavily used bass guitars and keyboards, as well as of deep-sounding string accompaniment.
Besides, it traditionally features sounds of exotic musical instruments, of which especially notable are glockenspiel,
zither and even a big church bell. Such a variety of used instruments, according to the musicians' words, is reasoned
by the need to express man's experiences in the most accurate and in-depth way. Although the band members say that they
do not stick to any particular musical style, they name the works of the Art of Noise, Radiohead and Brian Eno, as well
as of more traditional artists Ennio Morricone and Vladimir Cosma as having the biggest influence on their music.
Just as two years ago, the band sticks to its green ideals. The guys are proud that releasing the album hasn't
involved any spare bit of plastic. The album is distributed mostly through online music stores and on-demand recording
facilities. «We compose music, people listen to it. I don't understand, why this simple and elegant schema has
to be complicated with ugly plastic boxes and glossy covers. Therefore we encourage everyone to download our music
from online stores. It's cheaper, faster and greener. Listen to music, not to plastic!», says Nico.
The album goes on sale on Tuesday, the 13th of September. The band is happy to welcome the fans on their official
web site, http://www.absolutelyyears.com, which contains all the information
about the band and the album. Alternatively, the band is well-presented in social web, so all the interested-in's are
welcome to check out their Facebook and MySpace pages.
The Absolutely Years band was formed in late 1998 by two high school mates, Nico Years and II («the Second»). In
2009 the band has released their first public album, «Once», which contained selected compositions from the dozens
the guys had written since 1998. After releasing the first album, the band decided to focus on using their music as an
instrument of attracting attention to social problems. «A Man and an Orchestra», their first socially-oriented work,
is going to see the world in September 2011.
The band, whose members live in Leeds now, composes and performs instrumental electronic music. Although it is difficult
to attribute the band's music to some particular style, the influence of noise, ambient and art-rock styles, as well as
of the classical music, can be noticed in their compositions.
